On behalf of a Connacht Region University Hospital in Ireland, Head Medical are seeking a dedicated and experienced Consultant in General Medicine to join their dynamic and growing medical team. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a leading hospital, providing high-quality patient care while contributing to the development of innovative medical practices in a supportive and progressive environment.
This role is not a substantive post but will be a relatively long contract of 12 months with a view of going permanent .

Hospital Information
This University Hospital is an acute regional general hospital under the Health Service Executive, managed by the Saolta University Health Care Group. Total bed capacity is 359.
Strong teaching focus with simulation, procedural workshops, and MRCPI prep.
What’s on Offer for You?
- Basic Salary scale between €231,215- €277,736 in accordance with the HSE 2023 Consultant contract
- Additional remuneration for on-call duties and overtime as applicable depending on rota (up to €19,000)
- Highly flexible contract that enables consultants opportunity for a variety of different work patterns
- Up to €12,000 CME and €8,000 research grant
- 30 days annual leave

- Hours : 37 hours per week, plus on-call supplements
Key Responsibilities
Provide high-quality medical care in General Medicine to patients at this University Hospital.
Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure effective diagnosis, treatment, and patient management.
Supervise and mentor junior doctors and medical trainees.
Engage in continuous professional development, research, and quality improvement initiatives.
Participate in on-call duties as per the hospital’s rota.
Contribute to teaching and training programmes for medical students and postgraduate trainees.
Requirements to Apply
Full registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Irish Medical Council (IMC) – Specialist Division in General (Internal) Medicine must be active and in place to secure an interview
Extensive post-graduate Consultant experience in General Medicine.
Desirable
Experience in a subspecialty area of General Medicine.
Proven track record in medical research and clinical teaching.
Prior experience working in an Irish or UK healthcare setting.
Participation in quality improvement or patient safety initiatives.
