Post Summary This post will work as part of a team from the School of Medicine, Trinity College Dublin, and the Department of Public Health HSE Dublin and Midlands region in carrying out a healthcare needs assessment and developing recommendations for a model of healthcare for migrants seeking international protection in the Dublin and Midlands region who are resident in congregate settings. This collaborative project across Trinity College Dublin and the HSE is supported by HSE Spark Innovation funding. The coinciding arrival of Ukrainian beneficiaries of temporary protection (BOTPs) and marked increases in International Protection Applicants (IPAs) seeking asylum in Ireland has resulted in unprecedented demand for resources and services, including healthcare. The HSE Dublin and Midlands Region is home to a large number of migrants seeking international protection, and provides a range of congregate accommodation settings for this group, which pose additional social and health challenges. BOTPs, IPAs and programme refugees (who are referred to as ‘migrants seeking protection’ for the purposes of this project) represent a vulnerable population group with complex social and healthcare needs. In response to increasing demand, the Department of Public Health HSE Dublin and Midlands is undertaking a Healthcare Needs Assessment for migrants seeking protection who are resident in congregate settings in the region and this post-holder will join the team undertaking this.
