Summary of Post
DIAMOND (Developing Innovative Analytical Methods for research ON Deprescribing) is a Wellcome-funded research programme focused on advancing pharmacoepidemiological methods to study deprescribing using real-world healthcare data. The programme is developing and testing novel approaches, such as simulation, target trial emulation, and causal inference methods, to generate high-quality evidence on the benefits and risks of stopping medicines that may no longer be appropriate. The programme team is underpinned by the values of research transparency, reproducibility, and fostering positive research culture. To learn more about the programme’s aims, methods, impact and team, please visit our website : We want to recruit a Research Fellow who will focus on advanced analytics of linked patient record data and pharmacovigilance data to develop methodological research outputs, including statistical code and / or software packages for implementation of methods. This role is for an experienced researcher which involves supporting the principal investigator to manage the research programme and supervise early career researchers. The position will provide opportunities for the successful candidate to undertake training and development, as well as to develop and pursue their own research ideas relating to the programme. Specifically, the duties of the post will be : § Lead the design and conduct of selected pharmacoepidemiology studies using patient records, pharmacovigilance data, or other real-world data sources. § Support the principal investigator in programme management, governance activities, funder reporting, strategic planning, and delivery of programme goals. § Provide supervision and support to other researchers, and undergraduate and / or postgraduate students involved in the programme. § Develop and oversee data cleaning, management, and preparation for analysis in line with best practices, including contributing to the programme’s data management and archiving plans. § Lead or contribute to the write-up of research findings for publication in peer-reviewed journals and dissemination to key stakeholders. § Engage in research communication to maximise programme impact, including presenting findings to academic, policy, and clinical audiences, and supporting programme communication outputs (website, social media). § Support stakeholder engagement and Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) activities across the programme. § Perform any additional tasks as may be required. Qualifications – (Essential) : § PhD in a relevant field (e.g. epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, health services research, biostatistics, pharmacy, health informatics). Knowledge & Experience – ( Essential) : § Extensive postdoctoral (or equivalent) research experience in a relevant field. § Proven ability to lead or coordinate research, including supervising staff or students. § Strong quantitative analysis skills and proficiency in statistical software (e.g. R, Stata, or SAS). § Experience managing, cleaning and analysing large datasets (e.g. electronic health records). § Strong publication record and high-quality scientific writing skills. § Experience in multi-stakeholder research, including with clinicians, policymakers, or the public. § Skilled at communicating complex research to diverse audiences. § Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Knowledge & Experience – ( Desirable) : § Experience of research relating to pharmacoepidemiology / medicines optimisation. § Experience managing and analysing healthcare record data for research. § Project management training and experience. § Familiarity with methods development, simulation studies, or synthetic data generation. § Proven commitment to open research principles and practices. § Excellent organisational, interpersonal, and report-writing skills. We are all too aware that imposter syndrome and the confidence gap can sometimes stop fantastic candidates putting themselves forward, so please do submit an application — we’d love to hear from you.
