Post-Doctoral Researcher Department Of Geography

42 Months, Fixed-Term, Whole-time Post Position Summary The Earth and Ocean Lab at the Department of Geography, University College Cork wishes to appoint a Post-Doctoral Researcher to take a lead role in the DMAND project.

The will provide project management support to the overall project, help co-ordinate fieldwork between the project team as well as conduct research specifically on suspended sediment concentration from ADCPs.

To this end, they will enhance suspended sediment concentration methodologies using flume tanks with subsequent trials in a real-world setting.

They will then cross reference these data in the field with UAV data to determine horizontal extent of sediment plumes.

It is expected they will publish this work and during this time develop skills to support them becoming a fully independent researcher.

Experience and knowledge in any of the following areas are highly valued : working on boats, the Irish offshore wind sector, use of ADCPs, deployment and recovery of ADCPs, use and analysis of multispectral UAV data, coastal measurements (ADCP, Kestral, wind, wave, buoy), sediment analysis (particle size) and interpretation.

The appointee will work directly with the PI at University College Cork and will be expected to engage with a range of external stakeholder organisations.

The candidate is expected to start no later than January 1st, 2026.

Achievement of the expected progression within Post Doc and Senior Post Doc is transferable between the Irish HEI's.

This can be reflected in the starting pay of a PD researcher.
