The Group is experiencing significant growth due to its focus on off-site construction methods of delivering turnkey projects, meaning on-site construction time is kept to a minimum.
Role Description
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Electrical Estimator to join our growing team. This is a full-time, on-site role, and the Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for water treatment engineering projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in estimating within the engineering or construction sectors, with experience in electrical, or water treatment systems.
The Estimator will work closely with the project management, engineering, and procurement teams to ensure that the project's budget aligns with client requirements, while maintaining cost efficiency and high standards of quality.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Develop accurate and detailed cost estimates for water treatment engineering projects from the initial stages through to completion.
Work closely with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to gather necessary data for cost estimation.
Prepare and submit detailed bid proposals, including materials, labour, equipment, and overhead costs, ensuring competitiveness and profitability.
Evaluate potential suppliers and subcontractors, obtaining quotes and evaluating costs for materials, equipment, and services.
Review and analyse tenders, ensuring compliance with specifications and identifying any areas for cost-saving opportunities.
Maintain cost databases and update estimation procedures to ensure accurate and up-to-date pricing for future projects.
Collaborate with project teams to identify potential risks, delays, or cost overruns and suggest corrective actions.
Provide ongoing support to project managers by reviewing project budgets and offering advice on cost control during execution.
Conduct post-project evaluations to assess the accuracy of estimates and improve future estimating processes.
Assist in the preparation of financial reports for senior management, highlighting any variances between estimated and actual costs.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
Relevant Electrical Trade Qualification
Minimum of 3 years of experience as an estimator within an engineering, construction, or related industry.
Proven track record in preparing detailed and accurate estimates for engineering projects, particularly in water treatment systems or similar sectors.
Strong knowledge of engineering processes, materials, and methods, as well as an understanding of electrical systems and drawings.
Proficient in cost estimation software and tools, with excellent skills in Excel and other MS Office applications.
Experience with preparing tender documents and bid proposals.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to analyse complex project documentation.
Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to interact with internal teams, clients, and suppliers effectively.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and health & safety requirements related to estimating.
Desirable Skills
Experience in estimating water treatment engineering projects or similar systems.
Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modelling) and other modern construction technologies.
Chartered or professional accreditation in estimating or quantity surveying (e.g., RICS, ACostE).
Knowledge of sustainability practices in water treatment systems and the ability to incorporate these considerations into cost estimates.
