Postdoctoral Researcher: Artificial Intelligence & Data Systems The IMaR Research Centre at Munster Technological University Kerry Campus is an applied research centre delivering expertise in the areas of Intelligent Mechatronics, Software, IoT, and Data analytics. IMaR Research Centre is dedicated to enhancing the productivity of our regional industry partners in the manufacturing, agriculture, and process sectors. A principal theme of the IMaR Research Centre is the synergy between mechatronics and RFID for industrial applications in the highly technological manufacturing industry driven by new technology, innovation and global demand. IMaR is increasingly focussed on the complementary fields of data analytics, autonomous vehicles research and machine learning. The overall mission of IMaR is to be industries partner of choice for the provision of innovative applied research. IMaR serves a cross-section of industries including Agri-business, Automotive, Heavy Engineering, Pharmaceutical, Manufacturing, Aeronautical, Environmental, and Healthcare. IMaR has approximately 40 full-time researchers working across several disciplines; including automation, autonomous systems, software development, RFID, data analytics, and machine learning. Position:We are looking for a highly motivated Artificial Intelligence & Data Systems Postdoctoral Researcher to work on an Enterprise Ireland funded research project in the area of enabling AI technologies in the manufacturing sector. The successful candidate will work on the research, design and development of a platform for the automation of the complex issues surrounding the automated design and production management of customised hardware solutions in an industrial environment. The platform aims to increase customer interaction and allow increase efficiencies in the manufacture of customised industrial hardware. Minimum Qualifications Applicants are required to have a relevant PhD in the area of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning or a similar field (such as Software Systems, Data Systems, etc.) or equivalent, along with a suit Level 8 or higher qualification in Computer Science / Software Development or similar. Requirements The candidate will have a proven research record in the following technical disciplines: Experience of design and development of AI enabled systems, inc. Deep Learning for real-time data processing systems. Excellent programming/software development skills Experience in self-directed research in an academic or industrial environment Good organizational skills and an ability to manage resources and coordinate activities in the team. The following skills would be desirable: Experience with Agile development processes Experience in data processing Familiarity with the key concepts and principles of Natural Language Processing & LLMs. Experience with Python, TensorFlow and Linux systems. Experience with cloud-based environments, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps tooling Proven ability to design and deliver scalable full-stack systems. Experience in building and maintaining complex applications Familiarity with the academic research and industrial environments and willingness to contribute to the group to develop this and other projects. Self-motivated, reliable and hard-working. Experience participating in collaborative research projects Knowledge in monitoring, reporting, and verification Experience using and administering Linux systems Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment. Job Role and Description The successful candidate will work on an Enterprise Ireland Innovation Partnership funded research project relating to the development of in the area of enabling AI technologies in the manufacturing sector. The role will include: Contributing as a key member of a small, multi-disciplinary, self-organizing agile team, participating in technical designs and decisions. Research, Design, development and deployment of the platform o Influencing architecture, technical standards, and engineering best practices. Design AI system architecture o Data capture, preparation and AI system training . Responsibility for delivering prototypes and project updates to partners, stakeholders and members of the IMaR team. Creation and maintenance of technical project documentation. Work with other team members, including postgraduate and researchers as directed by the project PI. Duration of Contract :This position is initially for a fixed-term 18 month contract. Salary: An attractive starting salary in line with the Postdoctoral Researcher 1 salary scale Point 1 €47,273 will apply to this post, dependant on employee experience and qualifications.
