The Company

The steel is only one part of a major construction project.

Behind every package, programme and installation is a commercial position that needs managing - from the first cost plan through to the final account.

This is a family-owned structural steel contractor, established for more than three decades and delivering design, fabrication, erection, cladding and associated steelwork across Ireland and the UK.

With projects across Ireland, they are looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to take ownership of the commercial side of structural steel projects and work closely with the teams delivering them.

The Role

This is a senior commercial position with involvement throughout the project lifecycle.

• Manage subcontractor procurement, work packages and final accounts.
• Review drawings and identify changes between tender information and construction requirements.
• Lead the commercial management of variations and claims, negotiating with clients where required.
• Prepare interim payment applications and manage outstanding client payments.
• Complete structural steel, decking and cladding take-offs from drawings.
• Control the wider commercial position from cost planning through to project completion.

Regular site visits will form part of the role, keeping you close to the projects and the teams delivering them.

The Candidate

You will have at least 7 years' Quantity Surveying experience, with a strong understanding of structural steelwork or a similar construction environment.

You should have experience with:

• Structural steel or similar construction projects.
• Variations, claims, procurement and final accounts.
• Commercial and contractual management.
• Negotiating with clients and subcontractors.
• Reading construction drawings and completing take-offs.
• Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook, alongside project management software.
• Working independently while coordinating with wider project teams.

A Quantity Surveying or related degree/qualification is required.

Previous experience within the Irish steelwork market would be advantageous, but is not essential.
