Position Description Telecommunications are transforming our lives in the way we live and work and are essential to the remote management of systems and assets. ESB Networks Telecoms group has 100 staff providing the critical operational telecom networks needed to deliver the communication systems required to control the distribution, transmission and generation systems. The increase in renewable generation at transmission and distribution level and the development to a Smart Electrical Grid is driving an increased reliance on telecommunications systems including SCADA and Energy Metering. ESB Networks Telecoms applications, technologies and networks are undergoing substantial evolution towards packet-based communications, extending their reach to provide visibility and controllability of the LV and MV networks. This position will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to work and develop in a busy Engineering department. Key Responsibilities Design, Install and support a range of SCADA / energy metering equipment Specify, Design & Document SCADA and Energy Metering solutions for installation by third parties / contractors Work with Current Transformer (CT) and Voltage Transformer (VT) systems Implement and support SCADA and Protection systems used to control the Electricity Network Take part in technology trials and proofs of concepts for emerging technology solutions, in conjunction with customers and implementation teams across ESB. Maintain a strong safety, quality and performance culture and maintain OHSAS accreditation. Provide design and project management support for Networks Telecoms projects in ESB Networks, ESB Group and EirGrid Project delivery deliver projects on time, within budget and to scope. Develop and maintain close co-operation with stakeholders Engage with customer nominees to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions. Preparation of Project proposals & Expenditure Approvals as appropriate Experience and Qualifications Essential Qualifications in Electrical Engineering or Electronic Engineering or equivalent experience Full driving licence Familiarity with Control and Automation Systems used in ESB Networks Substations Familiarity with Energy metering principles and technology Experience in deploying, maintaining & fault finding electrical / electronic systems Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Strong communication skills, both written and verbal Experience with High Voltage environments Experience with AC & DC systems Desirable Familiarity with SCADA and Protection systems used in the Electrical Utility sector Familiarity with IEC101 & IEC104 communication protocols Familiarity working in a critical infrastructure environment A previous Electrical Trades background is a distinct advantage Location This role will be base in Leopardstown Dublin 18, however flexible arrangements will be considered for this role.
