Overview

AWS is introducing the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC).

We are seeking experienced systems engineers with a strong background in automation and operations to join the AWS Managed Operations team.

You will help build and lead operations and development teams delivering high-availability AWS services (EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, Bedrock) for EU customers.

Your responsibilities include overseeing the ESC launch in 2025, collaborating with global AWS teams, and influencing the evolution of AWS services and technology.

A typical day involves partnering with technology leaders, improving day-to-day operations, and driving improvements in availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC.

You may participate in on-call rotations to resolve incidents outside of business hours.

The overarching goal is to deliver scalable services and a high-availability experience for EU customers.

You will join a best-in-class development engineering and operations team aligned with AWSs commitment to customer satisfaction and continual innovation.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with technology leaders to enhance day-to-day operations and improve service performance (availability, reliability, latency, efficiency).

Contribute to the launch and ongoing operation of the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) in 2025.

Engage in on-call rotations as part of a team to root-cause incidents and maintain operational resilience.

Review operational health of services, identify anomalies, and craft actionable bug reports to improve system efficiency.

Provide feedback on change management documents and address the team's operational backlog.

Develop and test scripts to enhance workflows and automate repeatable tasks.

Educate service teams about the European Sovereign Cloud, fostering knowledge sharing and collaboration.

Qualifications

This role requires you to be a national of an EU member state.

Demonstrated expertise in systems engineering across hardware, software, networking, and operating systems.

Experience scripting processes in Bash, Python, or Ruby.

Solid understanding of Linux and networking; ability to troubleshoot and anticipate performance, reliability, or availability issues.

Ability to lead creation, revision, and improvement of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and drive operational best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with monitoring frameworks (e.g., CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic or similar).

Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading cross-organizational efforts requiring collaboration across multiple teams.

Experience supporting services in AWS or other cloud environments.

Experience operating 24x7 high-availability, distributed software applications and tuning performance / fleet utilization.

Experience with Infrastructure as Code (CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or similar).
