At Medtronic Athlone, our Engineering Department focuses on production of Medical Devices in a Controlled Manufacturing Environment.
Role
Senior Manufacturing Engineer – responsible for new product introductions, product transfers, and maintaining / improving existing product lines by ensuring time-efficient and cost-effective processes while maintaining overall product quality and compliance.
Responsibilities
Work closely with manufacturing, quality engineering, R&D, Strategic Sourcing, Sterilisation, and Packaging functions on NPI projects; provide guidance to junior engineers on processes, equipment utilization, and manufacturing techniques.
Develop and implement manufacturing processes applicable to statistical process control and may develop these techniques.
Collaborate with site on validation strategy and execution; participate in design and planning of layouts for plastics processing, assembly, and equipment implementation; adapt machine design to factory and production conditions.
Assist with design and arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure efficient and productive layouts.
Demonstrate leadership behaviours and possess expert understanding of various manufacturing technologies and processes.
Apply process improvement techniques (DFMA, Kaizen, DMAIC, Value Stream Mapping, Lean, Six Sigma) and demonstrate well-developed project management skills.
Contribute to a diverse workforce by bringing inclusive insights to the team.
Key Skills & Experience
Level 8 Bachelor's degree in Engineering with minimum 4 years relevant experience, or Master's with minimum 2 years, or PhD with 0 years.
Manufacturing engineering experience in a medical device-related industry; proven track record of developing, maintaining, and improving manufacturing processes.
Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing manufacture and distribution of goods.
Project management of manufacturing processes from concept to delivery; ability to assess issues and develop solutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals.
Strong mechanical aptitude; ability to understand, design, and use machines / tools.
Experience preparing written procedures, proposals, and reports.
Knowledge of risk management methodologies (PFMEA) and manufacturing plant test strategies.
Solid knowledge of SolidWorks / AutoCAD, MS Office, MS Project.
Effective communication skills with superiors, peers, and subordinates.
Six Sigma / Lean certification preferred; experience creating / processing engineering changes in Agile preferred.
Designs manufacturing processes, procedures, and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining, and material handling; designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for fabrication of tools and equipment; adapts design to production conditions; may include inspection and test requirements in the production plan; ensures processes comply with regulations.
