Job Title : Lecturer in Garment Construction (Maternity Cover)

Reporting to : Academic : Faculty Head / Programme Directors

Administration : Faculty Administrator

Location : Griffith College Dublin, South Circular Road

Hours of work : As per course requirements, additional hours as may be required in line with the needs of the service.

Job Summary : Applications are invited for a part time lecturing role in the Faculty of Design.

The Garment Construction is 5 ECTS credit module from the Faculty of Design, BA programmes (Level 7 and Level 8).

We are seeking a lecturer with an in-depth knowledge of pattern cutting and sewing who can competently prepare learners to meet industry requirements.

The ideal candidate will possess relevant experience, have enthusiasm and passion not only about their area of expertise but also about the opportunity to share their knowledge with the designers of the future.

PURPOSE : The primary focus of this post will be to play an active role in the academic direction of your module including teaching, assessment and administration.

Required Qualifications :

Candidates will be expected to have a Level 8 Qualification or equivalent in Design or a cognate discipline; proven teaching excellence and ability to support curriculum development; demonstrated leadership and problem-solving skills; excellent interpersonal skills; and the ability to build relations and to work collaboratively.

Membership of a Professional body and any record of research, scholarship and publications are an advantage.

  • Please read the Guidelines for Mock Lecture below Successful applicants should have the following attributes : An in-depth knowledge of flat pattern cutting and garment construction techniques with the ability to design, develop and produce learning and teaching material and deliver the module.Have excellent technical sewing and finishing skills using industry manufacturing methods, with the ability to demonstrate the operation and the troubleshooting of industrial sewing machines.Have industry experience, proven teaching excellence and professional communication skills with the knowledge andpassiontomotivate students to achieve success.Be up to date with current and emerging fashion industry practice, regulations and guidelines.Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving skills.Be self-motivated with strong organisational to undertake workroom management, competence in digital presentation and computer skills associated administrative tasks and learning management systems.Ensure the efficient and effective delivery of teaching programmes following the college strategy, policy and procedures, contribute to activities that influence leading-edge practice and may also undertake research activity.Excellent interpersonal skills; and the ability to build relations and to work collaboratively.Have experience of working in a positive, flexible manner, openly exchanging information, supporting colleagues and contributing to the development of the programme.Willing to arrange related student activities.Have an understanding and be able to demonstrate a commitment to equal opportunities and diversity.Garment Construction Module (Semester 1, 5 ECTS) Descriptor : The Garment Construction module aims to equip learners with a basic level of technical awareness and skills required to create their designs and develop effective communication skills using relevant industry terminology.

The module aims for learners to achieve a degree of competency and confidence to create creative pattern and assemble garments using appropriate sewing techniques and materials.

Learners must demonstrate health and safety standards when using industry equipment and sewing machines in a workroom environment.

The objective is for learners to achieve a degree of competency and confidence to measure, understand size charts and basic garment specification sheets.

Learners draft and manipulate blocks and assemble garments using industry sewing techniques and appropriate materials.

Projects explore industry standards and practice, so learners can differentiate between couture and industry production techniques.

Learners acquire skills to translate their design from a specification sheet to a final complete garment using basic industry-standard pattern drafting and garment construction techniques demonstrating the skills required to progress.

Guidelines for Mock Lecture As part of the interview process, candidates are required to give a 5 to 10 minute mock lecture, regarding the interview panel as students.The lecture should cover an item (or items) of the candidate's choice from an existing (or proposed) programme offered by the Faculty or Department.The candidate is free to use whatever medium and teaching aids are appropriate, including and projector, but is encouraged to use new technology.The lecture should not be the first lecture in a module, nor should it be an overview of a module.The lecture will focus on explaining a particular aspect of the module to students who are unfamiliar with the topic.The lecturer should begin by outlining any previous information that the students are expected to know (e.g.
