Our client's pumped-storage power facility is scheduled to complete its 5-year maintenance overhaul, which includes full machine inspections and dewatering of the upper reservoir and penstock to allow for inspections and any required repairs. In addition to the standard 5-year overhaul activities, significant maintenance and upgrade works are scheduled for 2027. These works will include, but will not be limited to :
- Generator rotor removal and runner extraction on Unit 1 for repair
- Generator rotor removal on Unit 2 for electrical testing
- Transformer refurbishment (including installation of new high-voltage bushings and oil coolers)
- Control & instrumentation upgrades (unit controllers, common PLC, and multiple distributed PLC systems)
- A substantial balance-of-plant programme covering both electrical and mechanical systems
The organisation is currently seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to mobilise to the site and manage the key responsibilities listed below. The successful candidate will work within a dedicated project team, supporting the project manager to deliver this major overhaul.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with the Safety Adviser and project team to ensure all work complies with statutory safety, health and environmental requirements, along with internal technical standards and guidelinesManage the main EPC electrical contract and additional electrical work scopes assigned by the Project ManagerLiaise with specialist engineering teams to deliver the overhaul in line with established protocols and proceduresSupport the implementation of Inspection & Test Plans for electrical work, in coordination with the relevant competent personnel or asset specialistsManage quality activities in line with the Project Quality PlanProvide daily supervision and act as a point of contact for contractors, including review of key ITP protocol sheetsCoordinate with station management and maintenance teams for the duration of the overhaulConduct regular safety, environmental, and quality auditsReport progress against schedule and participate in project meetings as requiredWork with the Project Manager to manage and control costs associated with assigned contractsOversee day-to-day requirements with the principal contractorDevelop technical specifications for mechanical plant and equipment work scopes and contribute to tendering and procurement processesApply the plant modification process for all mechanical modifications and ensure related procedures and drawings are updatedUse the contractor-management process to administer assigned contracts, including progress tracking and conducting kick-off, progress, and close-out meetingsAttend Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and workshop visits as neededProduce the Mechanical Close-Out ReportKnowledge, Skills and Experience
