Job description
  • Demonstrate behaviours consistent with the values of the hospital
  • Ensure hospital policies and procedures in all aspects of care are adhered to
  • Maintain healthy working relationships
  • Assist in the organising and controlling of Hygiene Services throughout the entire hospital
  • Schedule and supervise all staff within the department
  • Devise programmes of work for assigned areas and ensure their satisfactory completion
  • Be responsible, when required, for the requisitioning, custody and control of Hygiene items and related records
  • Monitor and address attendance in line with absence management policies
  • Participate in the financial management of all departmental activities, including inventories, stock management and payroll
  • Continuously review staff performance and take appropriate action
  • Deal in the first instance with staff grievances and liaise with the Human Resources Department on matters relating to disciplinary and grievance procedures
  • Report and investigate all accidents and incidents involving the department, including those relating to third parties
  • Organise and conduct training programmes for all departmental staff
  • Assist in compiling policies and cleaning schedules for all areas within the hospital campus, including existing and new ancillary buildings
  • Participate in reviews of all aspects of the hospital’s hygiene services, making recommendations as required
  • Conduct regular quality control audits in line with operational requirements, ensuring timely follow-up and reporting of results
  • Ensure staff are fully conversant and compliant with correct and safe working methods
  • Participate in the review and development of departmental risk assessments
  • Make recommendations regarding economical and effective cleaning equipment and materials
  • Inspect all cleaning equipment regularly to ensure it is properly maintained and kept in working order, and arrange maintenance of equipment as required
  • Create product specifications for cleaning materials and equipment
  • Participate in service development initiatives
  • Champion environmental initiatives
