Cloud Engineer Technical Lead (Azure / Data & AI)

A technology-focused organisation is seeking a Cloud Engineer Technical Lead to lead the technical delivery and ongoing operation of a cloud-based Business Intelligence platform. This role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership, offering the opportunity to shape scalable, secure, and data-driven solutions in a modern cloud environment. The Role You will take ownership of the design, development, and support of Azure-hosted analytical solutions, working closely with product, architecture, and UX teams. As Technical Lead, youll guide a newly established team, drive engineering best practices, and contribute directly to building high-availability, cloud-native services that leverage data and AI capabilities. Key Responsibilities Design, build, and manage Azure cloud infrastructure supporting externally facing products Lead the technical delivery of features, integrating with upstream and backend systems Act as Technical Lead for a growing engineering team, providing guidance and mentorship Collaborate with Product, UI/UX, and Architecture teams to design and deliver new capabilities Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using repeatable, scalable designs Ensure cloud solutions meet security, data quality, performance, and scalability standards Apply AI technologies and AI-assisted development tools within day-to-day engineering workflows Monitor, optimise, and improve existing cloud platforms and services Troubleshoot complex technical issues and drive timely resolution Establish and maintain technical documentation, standards, and best practices Partner with internal teams to define shared approaches for integrated cloud solutions Stay current with emerging Cloud, Data, and AI technologies and assess their impact Required Experience Previous experience in a Technical Lead or Team Lead software engineering role Strong hands-on experience delivering cloud-based products on a public cloud platform (Azure, AWS, or GCP) Extensive experience designing and developing cloud-native solutions with solid software engineering fundamentals Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve delivery and efficiency Strong knowledge of Azure or equivalent cloud services, including PaaS, FaaS, containers, secret management, and workflow orchestration Experience with RESTful APIs, microservices, containerisation (Docker/images), and service-based architectures Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform Strong programming skills in two or more languages (e.g. Python, Java) and scripting for automation (e.g. Bash, PowerShell) Experience working with SQL across large data volumes Solid understanding of cloud security principles and hands-on experience securing cloud applications Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern engineering tooling in Agile delivery environments Preferred Experience Experience with data platforms and analytics technologies (e.g. data warehousing, Databricks, Spark, DBT) Exposure to data pipelines with an understanding of fault tolerance and reliability Experience working in regulated or data-sensitive environments Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills High attention to detail with a proactive, problem-solving mindset
