Midlands Mink Eradication Programme Role : Community Liaison Job Description and Duties Reports to : Programme Management consisting of : NARGC Chairman and Board of Directors Breeding Waders EIP (NARGC) Coordinator Breeding Waders EIP Senior Project Manager Responsible for : Assisting in organising and coordinating the agreed programme actions, which include, but are not confined to : Eradication of Mink from a defined area On the ground co-ordination of the volunteer network Reaching out to and working with all groups and individuals in the defined area Training Accessing equipment requirements Ensuring the objectives, actions and data collection are uniform and consistent across the defined area Assisting in the detailed, professional reporting on the project as required by the NARGC, Breeding Waders EIP, and statutory authorities Location : NARGC Office in Mountmellick, Co Laois, will be the work address (NARGC may relocate to another office in the midlands area) Employee will be required to work from the Breeding Waders EIP offices in Moate, Co Westmeath regularly Remote working permitted as agreed with the NARGC Salary : €25,000 P / A (0.5 FTE 19.5 hours per week) (pro rata holidays) Contract : 3.5 years contract from commencement date to 18th March 2029 If additional funding becomes available, there may be scope for extension This competitive offer expires on 18.03.2029 Programme Background This pilot programme is Irelands first attempt to eradicate American Mink (Neovision vision) from a large, pre-determined area. Previous trapping efforts have controlled or subdued local populations without achieving eradication. Control alone allows rapid repopulation once efforts stop. The programme, a collaboration between the Breeding Waders EIP and the National Association of Regional Game Councils, supported by the National Parks and Wildlife Service, will utilise Citizen Science to deliver a structured and coordinated trapping network aimed at eradication over 3.5 years. All trapping will strictly adhere to Animal Welfare legislation and the Wildlife Act. Job Description and Qualifications Contract role for 3.5 years (to 18.03.2029). Potential extension by mutual written agreement. Reports directly to the NARGC Chairperson and Board of Directors. Works closely with Breeding Waders EIP management and NARGC employees. Responsibilities : Recruit volunteer citizen scientists in designated areas Ensure volunteers are trained and equipped to implement project objectives Maintain ongoing liaison and coordination with volunteers and local groups Monitor progress with other staff to ensure objectives and outputs are met Assist in ensuring consistent data collection and reporting across the project Requirements : Own transport, full driving licence, vehicle insured for business use Background information available on NARGC and Breeding Waders EIP websites Minimum Qualifications and Experience Experience and understanding of the natural environment and predation impacts on native species, especially ground-nesting birds Understanding of predator control and invasive species eradication Practical experience of predator control Proven organisational and multitasking ability, independently or in a team Knowledge and awareness of health & safety legislation and application Professional appearance and attitude Discretion and confidentiality Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal Ability to address groups or meetings and deliver clear messages Desirable Qualifications and Experience Experience leading a team and working with agencies or volunteers Game keeper or similar professional qualifications or experience Degree in Ecology or equivalent in habitat / species management Holds firearms licence and experience in nest protection / predator control Academic research background in relevant areas Experience coordinating or understanding regional-scale species fieldwork Main Duties Report to NARGC Chairman, Board, Breeding Waders EIP Management, and Programme Coordinator Organise and deliver training and promotional events Maintain accurate records of all training, including Health & Safety Pursue project objectives and issue reports as required Collaborate with Breeding Waders EIP project staff Hours of Work / Location Part time : 19.5 hours per week (0.5 FTE) Standard pro rata benefits for 3.5-year contract Normal office hours with flexibility required for occasional out-of-hours duties Main location : NARGC Office, with time in Breeding Waders EIP Office, Moate, Co Westmeath Agreed remote working permitted Probation Six (6) month probationary period Board may extend probation at its discretion Appointment ceases if performance is unsatisfactory during probation Application Process Please click Apply below with : CV (max 2 pages) Cover Letter (max 2 pages) Focus on your relevant experience and what you will bring to the role and to the NARGC.
