Precision Als Data Scientist

Adapt CentreDublin, Ireland

Job description

Research project / Challenge

  • ALS / MND causes progressive decline in movement, cognition and behaviour.

Although uniformly fatal, life expectancy can vary from 3 months to many years from first symptom, and there are not effective treatments.

Irish researchers, along with their European collaborations in ALS / MND, have shown that the disease is caused by variable combinations of faulty genes that likely interact with lifestyle and environment.

Using "big data analysis", Precision ALS will provide the technology to improve our understanding of how these factors impact the development of the disease.

This in turn will inform which treatment will work for each individual instead of a one size fits all approach.

  • The ambition of Precision ALS is to provide an innovative and interactive platform for all clinical research in ALS across Europe, that will then harness artificial intelligence (AI) to analyse large amounts of data.
  • On completion, Precision ALS will be a first-in-kind modular transferable pan-European ICT framework for ALS that can be easily adapted to other diseases that face similar precision medicine-related challenges.
  • On completion, Precision ALS will be a first-in-kind modular transferable pan-European ICT framework for ALS that can be easily adapted to other diseases that face similar precision medicine-related challenges.
  • About the role

In this role you will :

  • Be responsible for the cleaning, analysis, modelling and presentation of data currently being collected during a longitudinal study of ALS / MND.
  • In this study participants use a selection of 9 digital technologies at varying intervals over a year.

The technologies are a mixture of in-house prototypes and commercially developed devices.

All of them measure an aspect of physical function (e.g strength, speech, swallowing, dexterity, or walking).

    Participants use

the technologies at home to save time and effort in coming to clinic research visits.

Data collection commenced December 2024 and is ongoing

  • Have a high-valuable impact to the project through the implementation of technical solutions to the project goals, in particular healthcare data analysis that will have potential for benefit to the neurodegenerative health tech research community
  • Enhance your reputation through publishing in top-quality journals and conferences in collaboration with team members
  • Participate alongside leading experts in exciting project activities and events to further research in treatments for ALS / MND
  • Contribute to the development of the next generation of thinkers and innovators through teaching and supervision activities
