NeoDyne is a leading engineering company specialising in industrial automation, digital manufacturing, and electrical engineering solutions. With a strong presence across multiple sectors, including Life Sciences, Food & Beverage, and Energy, NeoDyne delivers leading-edge solutions that drive efficiency, safety, and performance for its customers worldwide.

With a team of 220+ skilled engineers, our expertise spans the entire project lifecycle, from design and implementation to commissioning and operations. From our offices in Ireland, the UK, Romania, and the US, we operate on a global scale, combining technical expertise with local delivery. We support customers across Europe, North America, and Asia, delivering tailored engineering services that drive long-term success.

NeoDyne is seeking a highly experienced Automation Engineer to support one of our key client sites on a contract basis. The successful candidate will work closely with the NeoDyne team and play a critical role in delivering automation expertise across the Dublin based site.

As an Automation / PLC Engineer, you will act as a technical owner for defined automation systems within a regulated manufacturing environment. You will be responsible for supporting these systems through their full lifecycle - from day-to-day operational support through to upgrades, optimisation, and future technology integration.

This role combines hands-on technical work with structured ownership, requiring close collaboration with operations, engineering, and vendors to ensure systems remain robust, compliant, and fit for purpose.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as system owner or deputy system owner for assigned PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems
  • Take responsibility for system reliability, availability, and performance in a live production environment
  • Lead or support troubleshooting of complex automation issues, including root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Own and support automation system changes, upgrades, and optimisation activities
  • Maintain control of system configuration, software versions, and technical documentation
  • Support formal change processes and contribute to investigations related to automation systems
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system performance and maintainability
  • Support new equipment, process, and technology introductions, including engineering and commissioning activities
  • Coordinate with vendors and internal stakeholders on automation-related activities
  • Promote safe working practices and adherence to site regulatory and EHS requirements

Required Experience & Skills

  • PLC platforms: Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley) and/or Siemens
  • HMI / SCADA systems supporting manufacturing operations
  • Degree or equivalent experience in Automation, Electrical, Controls, or related engineering discipline
  • Experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment (e.g. life sciences, medical devices, semiconductor, or similar advanced manufacturing sectors)
  • Demonstrated experience taking ownership of automation or control systems in a production setting
  • Strong troubleshooting capability across PLC, HMI, and SCADA layers
  • Comfortable working in structured environments with formal change and documentation requirements

Desired / Nice to Have Experience

  • iFix
  • InTouch SCADA
  • FactoryTalk View
  • FactoryTalk Batch / Recipe Manager
  • Batch or recipe-based control systems
  • Industrial communication networks (e.g. Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Profibus, DeviceNet, ControlNet)
  • Familiarity with ISA-88 / ISA-95 principles

Why Apply?

  • Long-term role with genuine system ownership and accountability
  • Highly competitive rates / packages
  • Modern, well-invested manufacturing site with ongoing automation upgrades
  • Opportunity to own and shape Rockwell and/or Siemens-based systems
  • Strong engineering culture focused on reliability, structure, and continuous improvement
  • Stable environment with real technical depth - not short-term firefighting

Characteristics

We look for candidates who

  • Work well as part of a team.
  • Have excellent problem solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Can complete tasks independently, capable of self-learning.
  • Can prioritise and coordinate work.
  • Have excellent customer service, interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.
  • Can multitask and work well under pressure.
  • Are a strategic business thinker.

What's on Offer

  • Competitive hourly rate based on experience
  • Paid overtime available, depending on project demands
  • Flexible working hours may be accommodated in line with project requirements
  • Opportunity to work on a high-profile biopharma site with a collaborative, technically strong team
  • Chance to be part of NeoDyne's network of engineering professionals, contributing to impactful automation solutions in the life sciences sector

NeoDyne Ltd is an equal opportunity employer, and all applications will be treated in strictest confidence.

Applicants must hold a valid EU passport or have the legal right to work in Ireland (e.g. Stamp 4).
