Job description

The Mental Health Psychology Services in HSE Mid-West provide a wide range of psychological services to a population of approximately 413,059. Almost 24% of the population are under the age of 18.

The Mental Health psychology services in HSE Mid-West are managed by a Principal Psychology Manager who has overall responsibility for governance and strategic planning and development of the service as part of the mental health management teams in the Mid-West and in line with national mental health policy and international best practice. There is currently one Principal Specialist post supporting the operational governance of CAMHS. There are currently 25 qualified staff working in mental health psychology services in the Mid-West.

The Principal Psychologist Specialist will support the Principal Psychology Manager and work in partnership with the other professional disciplines and operational managers ensuring high standards of professional practice across Mental Health Services

The Department has strong links with the Clinical psychology programmes based in University of Limerick and University of Galway and the Educational and Child Psychology programme based at Mary Immaculate College. Supervised placements to doctoral level students are provided and form an essential part of the partnership between HSE Mid-West and the University sector.

Staff members have opportunities to :

  • Participate in CPD and to avail of external training as part of agreed PPD plans, subject to budgetary constraints.
  • Contribute to staff training and teach in HSE, UL, NUIG & MIC.
  • Participate in and supervise service-related research.

The post holder will have a clinical role in the Limerick Rehabilitation and Recovery Service which was established in 2006. It covers a population of approximately 206,000, comprising the city and county of Limerick. It focuses on improving recovery outcomes in those with severe and enduring mental illness and complex needs, primarily schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder and the severe types of affective disorders. The post holder will be joining a well-functioning multidisciplinary team and will provide a psychological service within the community and inpatient settings. The multidisciplinary team also provides a service to the Day Centre and four high support residences.
