POSITION : Accountable Manager / Head of Training SATA Africa

REPORTING TO : SAF Aerogroup Head of Training BU Europe & Africa

LOCATION : Durban

Starlite Aviation Group has a requirement for a resilient, strong and organised professional to fill this position in its Durban office.

Overall Role in Business : Responsible for the overall operational management of the Training School to successfully achieve the Groups vision, growth, cash flow and profit targets through the provision of all training services delivered within scope, budget and timelines. Training services include, but not limited to, pilot training (fixed-wing and rotor-wing), RPAS and engineering.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS :

  • Leadership : Develop, motivate, and lead the training team towards achieving the business objectives.
  • Regulation and Compliance : Implements the plans, projects, systems, and controls to assure delivery whilst maintaining SACAA regulation and compliance.
  • Financial Budgets, Targets and Projects : Financial budgets and targets are planned, tracked, and achieved. Project management of assigned special projects.
  • Safety : Lead the drive to entrench the QSMS and build a positive quality and safety culture.

CRITICAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE :

  • Successful +- Ten years in a senior management role, managing teams and with responsibility for budgets, performance management and operational compliance with a proven track record of achievements in previous roles.
  • Successful +- Ten years of senior management level experience within civil aviation, in flight operations, maintenance, safety management or quality management role with a proven track record of achievements in previous roles.
  • Deep knowledge of both the technical and operational management of Helicopter and Fixed-Wing training operations. RPAS and / or aircraft engineering experience is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations and requirements, relevant to the operations requirements.
  • Military background (advantageous).
  • QUALIFICATIONS AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS :

    The following list of qualifications is essential to fill the position :

  • Business Management Degree or Diploma.
  • Commercial SACAA Helicopter and / or Fixed-Wing License.
  • Safety and Quality Assurance Certification.
  • KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Effectively implement agreed strategies and policies with a particular focus on delivering contractual and civilian training commitments to time, budget, safety and quality standards.
  • Build effective and motivated teams with annual Key Performance Indicators linked to the strategic goals, drive team performance to achieve goals, providing feedback and training as appropriate for the Training School.
  • Delivering, developing, and managing the day-to-day operations of the school. Setting annual strategies, plans and budgets for Operational resources and assets required to deliver continued efficiency to support the sustainable annual growth.
  • International Military Contracts : In liaison with the X-Aero Training Director and BD Director, provide the training services as specified in the contract brief and deliver the training within the required scope, time, and budget to achieve sustainable growth, cash flow and profit.
  • Civilian Training Contracts : In liaison with the X-Aero Training Director and BD Director, provide the training services specified in local civilian contracts within the scope, time and budget in order to achieve sustainable growth, cash flow and profit.
  • Engineering Contracts : In liaison with ASF Managing Director, ASF Africa Accountable Manager and Chief Training Engineer, provide the training services specified in local engineering contracts within the scope, time and budget in order to achieve sustainable growth, cash flow and profit.
  • Oversight of general administration and the efficient functioning of the flying and ground school section. In conjunction with the various CFIs, determine instructor development and training programs necessary to meet present and future operational requirements, and ensure standardization of instructional and flight techniques curricula among flight training personnel and that they are updated regularly to International best practice.
  • Continuously improve and develop the Scope of Services and Training capabilities and ensure implementation to meet market requirements and contract Service Level Agreements. Ensure maximum synergies are achieved between Africa and Europe.
  • Ensure that appropriate systems are implemented to identify and manage internal principal risks of the Company. Implement policies and systems to enhance reliable internal control systems within the company.
  • Ensure that appropriate systems are implemented to identify and manage external principal risks associated with operational requirements / initiatives and take steps to enhance the Companys assets and investments in partnering / leasing agreements, joint ventures, subsidiaries and affiliates.
  • Promote a just safety culture in conjunction with the Quality and Safety Manager in the business and ensure that all reports of operational irregularities, including incident and accident reports, are properly investigated, resolved and actioned as necessary.
  • Ensure Compliance with SACAA / TPM / QSMS and pass Quality Audits and annual renewals.
  • Ensure maximum utilization of fleet. In liaison with the Training Executive team, determine the Fleet and Equipment requirements to meet both local and international contract commitments and develop investment plans for Board approval. Develop strategy to maximise aircraft utilization and recommend changes to the investment plans when necessary.
  • The above position will be filled in accordance with the Recruitment and Selection Policy to achieve the Groups Objectives and Goals.
