Job Title : Network Manager Department : IT Reports to : IT Manager Date : 2025 Overall Purpose of Job The Mission of Beacon Hospital is to provide quality patient care in an environment that is respectful, compassionate and caring.
We are seeking a highly capable and forward-thinking Network Manager to lead the strategic planning, development, and operation of our hospital's network infrastructure.
This role is responsible for building a resilient, secure, and scalable network environment that underpins critical clinical and administrative systems.
The successful candidate will lead a team of network professionals, shape long-term infrastructure strategy, and drive innovation to ensure the hospital's connectivity and performance needs are met in a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
- Provide strategic leadership for the hospital's networking function, setting direction for the design, governance, and evolution of LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, cloud, and hybrid network environments
- Lead, mentor, and manage a high-performing team of network engineers and support staff, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement
- Define team goals and KPIs aligned to organisational priorities, conduct performance reviews, and support professional development and succession planning
- Develop and maintain a network infrastructure roadmap that aligns with the hospital's digital strategy, including plans for capacity expansion, technology refresh cycles, and future-state architecture
- Build resilience into the network environment by championing redundancy, failover, segmentation, and disaster recovery capabilities
- Collaborate with cybersecurity, systems architecture, and digital health teams to ensure that network infrastructure meets hospital standards for data security, uptime, and regulatory compliance (e.g.
GDPR, NIS2, JCI)
Lead the planning, prioritisation, and delivery of complex networking projects and upgrades, working closely with IT leadership and external partners to manage risk and changeOversee the implementation and optimisation of network monitoring, alerting, and incident response protocols to reduce downtime and improve service transparencyAct as the final escalation point for critical network incidents, while also empowering team members to handle operational challenges independentlyChampion automation, documentation, and standardisation across network operations to drive efficiency and maintain institutional knowledgeStay informed on emerging technologies, trends, and vendor offerings, and proactively assess their value to the organisation's strategic goalsPrepare and present regular reports on network performance, risks, project progress, and capacity planning to IT leadership and other senior stakeholdersPerson Specification Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or related field.5+ years of experience in network management, preferably in a healthcare or critical infrastructure environment.Proven experience with Cisco, Fortinet, HP / Aruba, or similar networking technologies.Strong understanding of healthcare IT systems and data protection requirements (e.g., GDPR, ISO 27001).Experience
Minimum 5 years in a network architecture or management role within enterprise environments.Proven experience delivering scalable, supportable, and highly available network solutions.Demonstrable expertise in :LAN / Wi-Fi segmentation and performance optimisationHybrid Cloud Networking (AWS, Azure)Strong understanding of IPv4 / IPv6, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), and DNS / DHCP.Experience managing voice-over-IP (VoIP), wireless networks, and VLANs is desirable.Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform) is a plus.Experience with ManageEngine or similar ticketing systems.Job Specific Competencies and Knowledge
Building and executing project plans working closely with customers and IT to understand and manage project expectations.Project experience involving technical consulting, solution design, project envisioning, planning, development and deployment.Provide accurate information at an appropriate level of complexity to staff in order to facilitate understanding and effective use by network / systems users.Provide a high standard of customer service and follow through staff inquiries and questions from commencement to resolution in a timely and professional manner.Plan and manage their own work in a complex, changing environment in order to meet set objectives and deadlines.Contribute to the success of the team by developing and utilizing effective lines of communication with other members and providing support to others as needed to ensure cohesion and consistency in approach.Provide advice (knowledge transfer) to the customer and partners.These will include support groups in the Automation, Local and Enterprise Applications & Infrastructure space as well as vendors and consultants from an external perspective who support many of the systems
Prepare documentation and training to support staff and related processes.Ability to support a 24x7x365 operation, including participation in monthly maintenance patching and updating activities.Additionally, this position provides On-Call IT support on a rotational basis.All posts in Beacon Hospital require a high level of flexibility to ensure the delivery of an effective and efficient service.Therefore, the post holder will be required to demonstrate flexibility as and when required by their manager and / or hospital management.
