Details of Position The Academic Manager is responsible for all aspects of the academic department including learner management, teacher support and development and operational processes and policies. Qualifications Educated to Degree Level (QQI Level 7 or equivalent) DELTA, Trinity Diploma in TESOL Or MA in ELT / TESOL (provided that they meet the validation, entry requirements, teaching practice and input criteria) Job Description The Director of Studies will be directly accountable for a number of particular duties and responsibilities which include, but are not confined to the following; Curriculum Development - To oversee the of existing curricula and syllabi for all English language programmes 1 - To oversee the of existing assessment framework for all English language programmes - Development of assessment materials, - Review of weekly lesson plans to ensure they are in accordance with the programme curriculum and syllabus. - Induction of new English language teaching staff. - Addressing student complaints in accordance with the ISE complaints policy. -Organisation and reporting of peer reviews. - Establishing and maintaining a routine of teacher observations. - Provision of support to new / inexperienced teachers. - Conducting of teaching staff appraisals, document forms and follow up on matters arising. - The establishment and maintaining a routine of weekly meetings with teachers to ensure support and effective performance - Attend, report and account to the Chief Executive and Board of Management, as directed by the Employer. - Ensuring that teaching resources are effective in the delivery of all English language programmes. - Ensuring that ISE facilities are effective in meeting teacher and student needs. - Liaising with the ISE Social Activities Co-ordinator to oversee and approve activities and teacher rota. - Liaising with the CEO and other senior management as directed, in relation to timetabling of classes - Conducting in-house teacher development workshops - Representing the ISE, as directed and approved, in communicating with external stakeholders. - Liaising with the ISE Sales & Marketing in relation to new course offerings - Maintaining an open-door policy for both students and staff. - Performing teaching duties when necessary 2 - Performing teaching duties if student numbers fall below the required amount to employ extra teaching staff. - Maintaining accurate and up-to- date records in respect of both teacher and student performance, while adhering to Data Protection imperatives. - Ensuring that ISE policies are adhered to and implemented by teaching staff. - Ensuring that familiarity is maintained in respect of ISE health and safety policy and that there is adherence to all relevant regulations - Ensuring that at all times there is compliance with ISE obligations under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act, 2005 - Recruitment of teachers within approved levels - Compliance with the ILEP and ACELS regulations on attendance keeping and time keeping for all students taking part in classes at ISE, Dublin - Assist in positioning ISE Ireland to be academically ready for the anticipated IEM accreditation system. - Ensuring compliance with the requirements of the IEM accreditation system post introduction. - Ensuring that all necessary administration and regulation requirements are met. Other particular tasks and duties may be assigned to the Employee, within their competence and capability.
