It is the role of the Clinical Engineering department to give the best possible professional service to our internal customers, so that they can provide the exceptional nursing care in line with this mission statement.
Overall Purpose of the Job
This is a senior role within the Clinical Engineering structure of the hospital. The two main aspects of the role are to support the core Clinical Engineering function of the hospital and also provide specialist Clinical Engineering support to the Projects Team across a range of development projects.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
Hospital Development Projects
The hospital is constantly developing, upgrading and improving the infrastructure within the main hospital site and satellite Clinics. The hospital has several Operating Theatre, Radiology, CSSD and Endoscopy expansion projects that are ongoing and in the pipeline. The role will :
- Work in conjunction with the Head of Support Services and the Project Management team to develop and manage all of the Medical Equipment aspects of the development projects.
- Develop floor plans and designs in conjunction with the appointed design team and internal Clinical and Non-Clinical Stakeholders.
- Work in conjunction with the end users to develop and review equipment specifications to best suit the needs of the department and the hospital.
- Work with the Design Team and end users to develop detailed room data sheets.
- Work in conjunction with Procurement Team to ensure that a compliant procurement process, in line with the equipment specification, is followed and best pricing is achieved.
- Work closely with the Projects Department and Design Team to ensure that the tender process for the overall construction project is in harmony with the equipment specification and overall development design.
- Liaise with design team / contractors to ensure that all aspects of the medical equipment requirements are considered during the construction phase.
- Oversee the installation and sign off on the medical equipment on the project.
- Ensure that all paperwork and reports are received and all internal processes are followed once acceptance testing is complete.
Clinical Engineering Department
The department provides widespread specialist Clinical Engineering support to the hospital whilst also performing managerial duties and proactive support to our Non-Clinical, Regulatory and Resourcing functions etc. within the hospital. The focus of this section of the role :
To support the Clinical Engineering Manager and the Clinical Engineering Team in managing certain day to day activities within the department as required.Support the implementation of all ISO 9001 and JCI requirements with respect to Clinical Engineering.Participate in the development and maintenance of equipment and quality management systems as they relate to the hospital's medical equipment, and in the provision of the hospital's Accreditation process, continued development of a quality assurance programme for electro-medical equipment and other hospital technologies.Provide service / repair of medical equipment in the workshop, and at the point of equipment use, through-out the hospital.Provide routine service, calibration, performance testing and electrical safety testing of medical equipment, as part of the Hospital's Preventative Maintenance Program.Provide assistance in equipment fault investigations.Ensure that all safety requirements, statutory and recommended are met to provide the safest environment for patients, staff and others associated with the operation, control and application of all bio medical equipment.Ensure all service and repairs are carried out in a fashion that complies with equipment manufacturer's recommendation and accepted best practice.Carry out all work and duties in a manner that reflects optimum safety / assurance for patients and staff alike.Prepare and maintain all necessary documentation and records relating to duties performed, including as required inputting such information to any relevant computer systems for the purpose of enhancing equipment support.Participate in any necessary technical training program and attend any training courses for the purpose of developing or enhancing staff expertise.Ensure that the concepts of safety, satisfaction and cost-effectiveness are realised in all aspects of activity and equipment support.Co-operate and directly participate when called upon, for the purpose of supporting medical equipment outside normal working hours.Ensure that all actions undertaken during the course of employment conforms to best practice and exhibit optimum patient safety and equipment user satisfaction.Person Specification
Qualifications
First or second-class honours Degree in Engineering or equivalent.Post Graduate Qualification in Clinical Engineering is desirable.Intermediate / Advanced proficiency and knowledge of Applications e.g. Microsoft Office, incorporating Word, Excel, Powerpoint & Access;Experience
At least 8 years satisfactory experience of working in the field of Clinical Engineering.Experience of working on development projects with a heavy M&E focus.Developing specifications and designing Operating Theatres, Radiology Suites and / or Cath Labs.An in-depth experience of some of the following areas is required :Clinical / Biomedical EngineeringAnaesthesia & Theatre EnvironmentRadiology / Cath Lab EnvironmentCardiology and ICU / CCUExperience of a Systems Integration Environment (PACS, HL7 etc.)Knowledge of IPC protocols and procedures.Job Specific Competencies and Knowledge
