Key Responsibilities Primary :

  • Lead Estimating Team
  • Further development of the Estimating Dep. and its systems.
  • Maintain WIP List
  • Tendering desired projects as selected by KCMG Directors.
  • Manage and review of all tender documentation received and distribute projects as required to estimating team.
  • Oversee measurements & costing of projects paying particular attention to specifications, schedules, schematics, drawings and any addendums.
  • Manage quotation requests from suppliers.
  • Negotiating with suppliers to achieve best price.
  • Carry out detailed take off’s from drawings and schematics, and enter into project costing to apply rates and norms to achieve overall project cost.
  • Review all tenders, ensuring all project requirements are captured and all major and minor items are costed.
  • Compile preliminary and management costs associated with each project.
  • Review Value engineering possibilities and propose prior to tender submission.
  • Review project costs with the commercial manager or directors prior to submission.
  • Populate all tender documentation for issue (Form of tenders, Pricing documents, BOQ’s etc.)
  • Assist in the creation of Tender supporting documents where applicable.
  • Ensure the estimating systems are kept up to date. Rates and norms are to be reviewed regularly.
  • Liaising with external estimators as required
  • Attend site visits and client meetings as required
  • Lead the handover process from estimation to operations post project award ensuring accurate and detailed project summaries are delivered.
  • Be the go-to person within estimating for reviewing and understanding job performance reports (CVR’s) for ongoing and completed works to ensure continuous improvement of departmental rates and job costing assumptions.
  • Lead on the review and understanding of job performance challenges by liaising with Commercial & Contracts teams to ensure team of estimators are always pricing works in line with how they are being delivered at site. Secondary : (Where required.)
  • Assist project management team on live projects where required.
  • Project cost and program forecasts
  • Measurement from drawings of the Mechanical components
  • Preparation of project budgets and cost plans for agreement at project start meetings
  • Hold job start meetings with Project Manager & Sub-contractors to ensure that the briefs are fully understood
  • Providing advice on contractual claims
  • Managing sub-contractors accounts and certifying payment (in agreement with PM)
  • Compile and submit variations and apply for Change Order Requests
  • Compile & submit Monthly Progress Claims and Final accounts (in agreement with PM)
  • Compile and submit Delay Notices
  • Follow up on the approval of Monthly Claims and Final Accounts
  • Compile and submit weekly Progress & Monthly Cost Reports to the Regional Director
  • Continual review of contracts to ensure compliance Construction Contracts
  • Performing risk and value management and cost control advising on procurement strategy
  • Agree final accounts
  • Prepare & present commercial project reports for monthly internal commercial meetings
  • Track actual costs against budgeted costs
  • Keep WIP log updated
  • Ensure all commercial information is stored on the network commercial file as per company structure
  • Site visits to review projects with project team and monitor progress Requirements :
  • Previous Mechanical Estimating experience
  • Third level qualification in a Surveying, Cost Engineering or Building Services discipline or can demonstrate an equivalent level of experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience in a senior estimating management / commercial role, ideally within the M&E sector.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical & process pipework systems, HVAC, plumbing and other mechanical building services systems
  • Ability to interpret drawings and specifications, preform accurate take-offs, and prepare detailed BOQs
  • Commercially astute and ambitious.
  • High Organisational and time management skills.
  • Working knowledge of labour, plant, materials and equipment rates
  • High level of IT competence essential to estimating & quantity surveying (Microsoft suite, CostX, Trimble, etc.)
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Exceptional Communication skills
  • Management experience
