Job Description : Legal Counsel - 12 month contract

Mercer

Description : Marsh McLennan Ireland is seeking talented individuals for an exciting opportunity to fulfill a fixed-term (maternity leave cover) Legal Counsel role within its high-performing Legal, Compliance and Public Affairs team.

You will support the Mercer and Marsh businesses in Ireland, working closely with local and regional team members to provide high-quality legal services.

The role focuses on commercial matters and may include managing disputes, project work, and regulatory issues in financial services, insurance, investment management, pensions, and trusts.

This position is suitable for a lawyer with a commercial background seeking to develop in-house skills and take ownership of negotiations.

Report to : Head of Legal, Compliance and Public Affairs, Ireland

Team Size : 4 in Ireland, within a larger European Legal Department

Responsibilities include : Drafting and negotiating contracts and legal documents.

Managing disputes, guiding investigations, and supervising external counsel.

Advising on projects and legal issues within the Irish business.

Contributing to regulatory initiatives and policy drafting.

Providing legal advice on developments and risks.

Supporting regulatory compliance and developing legal tools.

Prioritizing work and communicating with colleagues about timeframes.

Requirements : Current practicing certificate from Ireland or another common law jurisdiction.

2-3+ years PQE.

Strong commercial contracts experience.

Skills : Prioritization and time management skills.

Legal drafting proficiency.

Initiative and efficiency in work processes.

Teamwork and effective communication skills.

Attention to detail and organizational skills.

Preferred : Experience in Irish Financial Services and Pensions Law & Regulation is a plus but not essential.
