The Role

Based in our facility in Ennis, Co. Clare, and reporting to the Systems Analyst in the Clinical Trials team, the VPM IT Support Engineer will be responsible for the day-to-day configuration and maintenance of the VPM (Vitalograph Process Management) system.

VPM is a configurable, rules-based, modular application that runs on an application server and SQL database server and uses process lifecycle, criteria-based event rules, and operation and field validation rules to ensure that business processes are completed in accordance with the requirements of the business processes running on the system. The VPM application, licensed from Sunrise Software, is customised and configured to meet the requirements of the Vitalograph business processes running on the system.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Bulk importing clinical trials data for new and ongoing clinical studies.
  • Configuring event, operation and field validation, and schedule rules to guide process activities and trigger rules-based events at various points in business processes running on the system.
  • Configuring event driven email notification messages in HTML.
  • Configuring scheduled reports for the management team to assess the performance of the processes running on the system.
  • Configuring and maintaining group dashboards that display pertinent information about the business processes running on the system.
  • Within the scope of our Support and Maintenance agreement with Sunrise Software, enlisting the support of Sunrise Software to resolve any reported issues (bugs) and / or configuration problems with the system.
  • User account management – Adding new users and removing users that have left.
  • Administering security for the various VPM groups to ensure that group members have access to the relevant dashboards, operations, fields, and filters in the system.
  • Taking frequent backups of the database, especially important before making any significant configuration changes to the system.
  • Filing change requests (CRs) for all significant changes to the system.
  • Collaborating with key stakeholders to understand the business process requirements, and then going on to configure, test, and demonstrate the implementation of the process on the VPM Test system before porting the configuration to the live system when the key stakeholders are comfortable that the VPM Test configuration is working as expected.
  • Upgrading both Live and Test VPM systems to the latest release from Sunrise Software in a timely fashion.
  • Installing SSL security certificates in :

Apache 2.4 HTTP server

  • Apache Tomcat server
  • IIS (Internet Information Services) Server for the Customer Survey
  • SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) for the VPM Packing Lists and Shipping Labels
  • Java for the VPM Mail Processor
  • Working with internal and external software developers to manage and maintain the VPM tools (import tool, check-in tool, reports server) and carrier integrations (UPS & DSV) over the REST API.
  • Bulk-archiving of records from system when no longer required by the business.
  • Synchronizing the VPM Live and Test systems periodically.
  • Minimum Requirements :

  • 3rd Level qualification, or equivalent, in a Computer Science discipline.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) including strong data processing skills within Excel.
  • Familiarity with IT systems and prior experience working with IT professionals (system administrators, engineers, and software developers).
  • Maintain a customer-focused approach to ensure high customer satisfaction levels from the users (customers) of the VPM system.
  • Self-motivated with a keen sense of urgency and ownership.
  • Advantageous Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in a Computer Science discipline.
  • ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) qualification.
  • Project Management certification e.g. APM, PMP, Prince 2.
  • Prior experience working as an IT System Administrator with experience of service desk management. Prior experience working as a software developer.
  • Experience working in a customer service environment.
  • Experience working with service desk ticket management systems.
  • Experience using SQL databases, including T-SQL, MS SQL server Management Engine, SQL scripting.
  • Experience working with SQL database systems.
  • Experience working with software developers to integrate disparate IT systems over standard APIs.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Visio.
  • Experience working with HTML documents.
  • Experience working with SSL security certificates.
  • Familiarity with OAuth 2 modern authentication.
