On behalf of a Connacht Region University Hospital in Ireland, Head Medical are seeking a dedicated and experienced Consultant in Anaesthesiology  to join their dynamic and growing medical team. This role is not a substantive post but will be a relatively long contract of 12 months with a view of going permanent .

• Basic Salary scale between €231,215- €277,736  in accordance with the HSE 2023 Consultant contract
• Additional remuneration for on-call duties and overtime as applicable depending on rota (up to  €19,000)

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Delivery

Provide perioperative anaesthetic care across surgical disciplines

Lead assessment, diagnosis, and management of acute and chronic pain conditions

Provide specialised clinics, interventions (e.g., nerve blocks), and pain treatment plans

Leadership & Governance

Oversee or support the Chronic Pain Service and Pain Management programs

Ensure high standards of care, clinical audit, and compliance with HSE policies

Education & Collaboration

Work closely with a multidisciplinary team—physiotherapists, psychologists, surgeons—to deliver holistic pain management

Support and educate junior doctors, anaesthetic trainees, and other staff

Requirements to Apply

Full registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Irish Medical Council (IMC) – Specialist Division in Anaesthesiology  must be active and in place to secure an interview

Extensive post-graduate Consultant experience in Anaesthetics

One-year certified postgraduate fellowship training in Chronic Pain medicine.
