The Journal Investigates is seeking to hire an acting editor to lead our team for a 12-month period.
We’re looking for a skilled leader with experience in strong original reporting, an interest in driving engagement of articles, excellent managerial skills and an ability to meet multiple deadlines.
This is a full-time position with a one-year fixed-term contract. The Journal Investigates offers a supportive and flexible working environment and is open to candidates based in Ireland.
THE ROLE WILL ENTAIL
- Leading and management of The Journal Investigates unit
- Liaising with the Editor of The Journal and collaborating with the newsroom to plan, oversee and deliver impactful investigations
- Coordinating the publication and promotion of all investigations
- Developing and supporting reporters undertaking investigations
- Conducting, researching and writing investigative articles
- Driving the promotion and impact of the overall brand
- Participating in Journal Media’s management team and cross-organisational initiatives

Substantial experience in a journalism role at a national level - some of which should include investigative or original reporting on issues relating to IrelandExperience in leading a project or team, as a reporter or editorStrong interest in investigative and data journalismFamiliarity with essential tools important for investigative journalism, including FOI and AIE requestsRobust knowledge and experience of Ireland’s legal framework around defamation, publishing and copyrightProven ability to research and deliver on impactful articlesProven ability to promote projects and / or brands in a professional settingAPPLICATION
