About the team

The Privacy and Data Protection team is dedicated to ensuring that users' data is handled responsibly and securely, thereby fostering trust in Stripe's Privacy and Security practices. Stripe will succeed at our mission of increasing the GDP of the internet only if we prove ourselves worthy of our users’ trust. We build application & infrastructure solutions into Stripe’s Data Platform so that data protection guarantees are always on by default. We do this by targeting application & infrastructure layer protections to abstract complexity, and provide intuitive, out-of-the box solutions for common concerns, enabling teams to integrate quickly and get on with their work. This team will work closely with various engineering and cross-functional teams across Stripe to achieve our objectives.

What you’ll do

As an Engineering Manager on the Privacy and Data Protection team at Stripe, you’ll lead the team responsible for building internal products and solutions that improve privacy and security governance of large scale data. This would include building security primitives in data infrastructure, libraries and frameworks for use by Stripe developers and internal tools to be used by Stripes. Your role heavily impacts Stripe's overall privacy and security posture, and as such, you'll work cross-functionally with Product owners, engineering teams across other organizations, Privacy Legal and Ops teams. Your work is not only impactful; it is critical to the long-term success of Stripe and our users. We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to join us and lead Stripe engineers in building trustworthy financial infrastructure for the internet.

Responsibilities

• Build and improve authorization solutions for data platform infrastructure.
• Instrument and measure access policies and build solutions to drive least privilege.
• Build internal tools for other Stripe teams to help manage their privacy requirements.
• Lead the team’s charter, partnering with tech leadership on system architecture and direction of internal data governance tools.
• Set clear goals and direction, and provide regular feedback on team members’ performance.
• Manage processes to help the team do its best work and engage effectively with the rest of Stripe
• Recruit great engineers, in collaboration with Stripe’s recruiting team.
• Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives as a member of Stripe’s engineering management team.
• Technically dig in when the team needs support, including contributing to dashboard development, metric analysis, designing experiments, proof-of-concept work, exploring new tools to adopt, etc.

Hybrid work at Stripe

Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for individuals and their teams.

Pay and benefits

The annual salary range for this role in the primary location is €132,000 - €198,000. This range may change if you are hired in another location. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings (“OTE”) range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions / sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and specific location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the primary location may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.
